YMCA Investing in Together Time for Families Week
Article Date: Tuesday, 15 May 2012

The YMCA is urging families to invest in some “together time” and take time out to do something healthy and active during National Families Week from 15-21 May 2012.

"The YMCA is committed to providing programs and services that allow families to engage in a range of healthy, fun and affordable activities," Phillip Hare, CEO YMCA Sydney said.

The YMCA knows how vital it is for families of all shapes and sizes to have a place away from work and home where they can connect, be active together and, in some cases, escape and overcome adversity, particularly for young people.

It has been found that "relationships have never been more important to young people, with almost three quarters (74.3 per cent) of those aged 11 to 24 saying family is what they value most in life," in the Mission Australia National Survey of Young Australians Study.

“Our commitment to family programming at the Y will not only increase family together time but will promote the benefits of adopting healthier, active lifestyles,” Hare said.

Brian Babington, CEO of Families Australia, said the work the Y does in bringing families together is not only strengthening the family unit and the lives of young people but entire communities.

“The Y is one of the strongest advocates of the importance of “family time” and continues to ensure all families, no matter their financial status or specific needs, are catered for at the Y,” he said.
